What Child doesn’t like performing in some way?  In our stage school we aim to build up the self-confidence and imagination in all of our students, through song, dance & drama. We help your children to explore who they really are and prepare them for stage performances. We teach a wide variety of songs from old and new Broadway musicals, encouraging co-ordination and good posture. The children have great fun working with teachers to develop and perform their polished routines in front of an audience.
Our one hour class consists of 20 minutes body warm-up, then each week the teachers will work on teaching some dance steps. They teach in the form of Modern and Jazz and never go onto a new routine until every child is confident in the dance.

tap  Dancing

MSPA Tap Dancing photo
Tap dancing is a fun style of dance that anyone can learn. The most common style is called “Classical tap”, but other tap styles are “Street tap”, “Modern Tap”, “Funky Tap”, “Rhythm Tap” and “Broadway Tap”. Tap is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps.
Tap builds strength in the legs and feet, in addition to increasing flexibility in the hips, knees and ankles. Tap dancing also develops a great sense of rhythm and timing. Here at MSPA we teach both Modern and Broadway Tap with a little Street Tap thrown in also. There are 3 class levels, Beginners, Intermediate & Seniors. Each student is accessed and put into their level of capability. Our Tap classes are now open to boys and girls aged 7-18yrs.

Hip Hop

Our Jazz Funk Class is now called Hip Hop, as we feel it better describes the class now.  Hip Hop incorporates different street dance styles and is primarily danced to hip hop music.  It is fun and expressive and can bring out your fierce side.

Our Hip Hop Class will be taught at three levels, catering for both age and ability.

This class is based around the various areas of the trends in dance that have emerged out of the evolution of the Jazz style over time. As such, routines will range from the old Hollywood era of the movie and stage musical through to commercial dance which is a fusion of Jazz technique and the Hip-Hop culture.
Technical components will include, correct posture & alignment as well as kicks, leaps and turns. We will work on strength & conditioning, co-ordination & isolation exercises, flexibility and audition/performance technique.
We are delighted to welcome Clodagh Long to our Team.  She will give individual and small Group Singing lessons.
Clodagh has just returned to Ireland having spent 8 years working in the UK as a performer and teacher.
She was the recipient of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Scholarship for her training at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama for her MA in Musical Theatre.

drama classes

creative  drama

MSPA Creative Drama
Creative Drama is a chance for children to learn and play in a controlled and secure environment. They learn to push their own boundaries of confidence, preparing them for a world full of challenges and obstacles.  Creative Drama gives children the sense of self, to be confident and empathy towards the feelings of others.
Creative drama can include dramatic play, improvisation, acting, mime, story telling, imagination journeys, theatre games and dance.  Students are also involved in various projects like short stories, monologues & short movies.
This develops them in many other areas of acting. They learn to act for stage & camera, prepare a role and interact with other actors.
Every two years, parents are invited into the Drama Classes to see their children perform.

exam  drama

MSPA Exam Drama
Children will study performance, literature, public speaking and interview technique in our Speech and Drama Examination Class, with the intention to sit grade exams in June or December. The Speech & Drama examinations from Kindergarten to Grade 8 encompass performance in poetry, prose, drama, mime, reading, theory and conversation in a fun and comfortable environment.  We must ensure that enough time is allocated to each student, therefore we keep class numbers between 14 and 16.  The skills obtained from graded exams encourage pupils to be articulate, strong minded and confident. All of which children carry forward to adult life.
